Ductless Mini-Split FAQ

HVAC system
|

For good reason, many homeowners have decided to choose a ductless mini-split over a traditional HVAC system. Not only does this type of heating and cooling unit improve comfort, but you can also look forward to saving a lot of energy. Here are a few commonly asked questions about ductless AC systems.

What is a ductless mini-split system?

Like conventional HVAC systems, a ductless mini-split features an outdoor condenser unit. However, no ductwork is needed. This simplifies installation. Wires link the outdoor unit to a wall-mounted blower unit through a small hole. Up to four indoor blower units can be connected to one outdoor condenser unit.

How does a ductless mini-split system work?

It works similar to a regular HVAC system. However, a ductless mini-split blows cool or warm air directly into a single room. By comparison, central HVAC systems feed air throughout your entire home via a network of ducts.

What is zoned heating/cooling?

ductless mini-split system allows zoned heating/cooling. This means every room in your home can be set to a different temperature. While your bedroom may be set to 74 degrees in the summer, the living room can be adjusted to 80 degrees. Zoned heating/cooling enhances comfort and saves energy.

How long will a ductless system last?

On average, you can expect a ductless mini-split system to last for at least 20 years. However, keep in mind that routine maintenance and the demands placed on your system will impact its lifespan.

How much do ductless systems cost to install?

The cost to install a ductless mini-split system can vary. It’s a good idea to call for an estimate ahead of time. Although mini-split air conditioners may initially cost more, they'll pay you back in energy savings.
